Pan-Aadhaar Link Status: With just few days left before the December 31 deadline, the Income Tax Department has reminded PAN Card holders to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking, failing which the PAN will become inoperative. The individuals who have not completed the mandatory linking should do it before the year end so that they don't have to face issues in financial, tax and investment related activities in future.
Meanwhile, if a cardholder is not sure, if the PAN is linked with Aadhaar?, then the person can check the same online following simple steps.

Steps to check Aadhaar-PAN link status
- You need to visit the income tax e-filing portal
- Navigate ‘Link Aadhaar status’ option
- Next, you have to enter Aadhaar and PAN details in the respective boxes
- Click on Submit
- Aadhaar-PAN link status will appear on the screen
If you find that your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar then, you should consider linking both the important documents as soon as possible to avoid the last minute hurdle on the day of the deadline. The process to link PAN and Aadhaar is not complicated. It can be done digitally.
Steps-by-Step guide for PAN-Aadhaar linking
You need to visit the official income tax e-filing portal
- Log in using credentials (Sing-up, if not registered)
- Navigate ‘Link Aadhaar’ option inside the profile section
- Next, you have to enter PAN and Aadhaar details
- Now, click on ‘continue to pay through e-pay tax’ option
- You need to Choose an assessment year (relevant) before selecting type of payment as ‘Other Receipts’
- You will have a pre-filled applicable amount, click continue to generate a challan
- In next step, you have to select a payment mode
- Pay the amount
- Following the payment, the Aadhaar-PAN linking can be done.
Pan-Aadhaar Linking: What happens if you miss the December 31 deadline?
PAN holders, who will fail to link their PAN with Aadhaar on or before the December 31 deadline, will be unable to use PAN for various financial and tax-related activities, including income tax return filing and bank transactions.
Post the stimulated timeline, PAN holders have to pay a late fee of Rs 1,000 to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking. However, individuals who obtained their PAN card after October 1, 2024 using an Aadhaar enrolment ID will be exempted from the penalty. They can complete the document linking process free of charge within the deadline.
