A heartbreaking incident during the Bihar Board Matriculation examinations has sent shockwaves across the state. A young student from Kharjama village in Masaurhi took her own life after she was denied entry to her examination center for arriving just 10 minutes past the deadline.
The Fatal Delay
The student, identified as Komal, was scheduled to take her exam at a center in Barni. According to reports, she had been staying with a relative in Maharajchak, roughly six kilometers from the venue. On the morning of the exam, she reached the gates at 9:10 am and only ten minutes after the 9:00 am entry cutoff.

Despite her desperate pleas to the staff, the gates remained locked. Overwhelmed by distress and the fear of losing an academic year, Komal left the center. She later boarded a train at Nadaul and jumped from the moving carriage between Taregna and Masaurhi Court stations. Although police rushed her to a nearby hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Strict Regulations Amidst Massive Turnout
This year, approximately 1.51 million students are appearing for the Bihar Board Matric exams across 1,699 centers. Today marked the second day of the boards, with students appearing for the Mathematics paper.
To maintain "exam integrity" and simplify security checks, the board has implemented several strict and controversial rules:
The 9:00 am Cutoff: Entry is strictly prohibited after the designated time.
Dress Code: Students are barred from wearing shoes and socks; only slippers or sandals are permitted to prevent cheating.
High Stakes: In various districts like Patna, Buxar, and Begusarai, several students were seen desperately scaling 10-foot walls to enter centers after being turned away at the gates.

A Call For Mental Health Awareness
The incident has ignited a heated debate regarding the rigid nature of examination protocols and the immense psychological pressure placed on students. While the administration emphasises discipline, many are calling for "human sensitivity" in such high-stakes situations.
A Note To Students
No examination or academic setback is worth a human life. Success and failure are parts of a long journey, and a single gate closing does not mean the end of your future. If you are feeling overwhelmed, please reach out to parents, teachers, or professional counselors. There is always a way forward and help is always available.
