In a major relief for Below Poverty Line (BPL) electricity consumers, the government of Bihar is set to install 1.1 KVA rooftop solar panels free of cost under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana. The initiative aims to reduce electricity expenses for economically weaker households while promoting the use of renewable energy.

According to a report by Jagran.com, citing Shashikant Kumar, Executive Engineer (Electricity), Bhabhua, the power department has already begun seeking consent from eligible consumers for the installation of solar panels. Applications can be submitted through the Suvidha app until February 28. The district has around 66,512 Kutir Jyoti connection holders who stand to benefit from the scheme.

Under the guidelines, applicants must have a concrete roof measuring approximately 64 square feet, free from shade. A 1.1 KVA unit will consist of two solar panels. The entire cost of procurement and installation will be borne by the electricity department.
