While Xi’s visit to the country, after nearly 7 years, is being considered significant for regional stability, his heavily armoured Hongqi N701 has once again turned heads. Why Is It Called The ‘Red Flag’?

The N 701 Limousine is manufactured by the historic Chinese luxury car manufacturer, Hongqi. The Chinese word Hongqi literally translates to ‘Red Flag’. Official cars used by state heads across the world have different nicknames. For example, the presidential car used by the US President is known as ‘The Beast’. Similarly, the heavily armoured Limo of the Chinese President is known as the ‘Red Flag’.

Hongqi N701: Exterior & Features

The front fascia of the N701 features a large grille with subtle chrome accents on the vertical slats of the bumper. The LED lights boast a sleek and straightforward design, complemented by additional chrome detailing on the window surrounds.

Features

The luxurious vehicle measures approximately 18 feet in length and boasts 21-inch thick bulletproof wheels. The entire vehicle is covered in bulletproof glass, and the exterior body gets extensive armour plating. Additionally, an air compression system is present to safeguard occupants from potential chemical attacks.

Hongqi N701: Powertrain

As per media reports, the Hongqi N701 is equipped with either a V8 or a V12 engine that produces up to 360 bhp. The Red Flag boasts of impressive speed potential as it can easily achieve a top speed of 200 km/h. The Red Flag appears to be standing high on its wheels, indicating that it is built on an SUV chassis, like the US President’s limousine, the Beast.
