MG ADAPT Platform In India: MG Motor India today unveiled a new platform for the brand’s upcoming hybrid and electric vehicles. The new platform unveiled by the brand is called the Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT). The MG ADAPT platform is significant for the brand’s upcoming new energy vehicles, and it can support several types, including strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), range extender hybrids, and pure EVs. Let’s take a look at the key highlights of the newly unveiled MG ADAPT Platform.
MG ADAPT Platform: Details
As mentioned earlier, the MG ADAPT platform is significant for the brand’s upcoming electrified vehicles. The ADAPT platform is unlikely to be the foundation for any of the brand’s ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles. The petrol engine to be used in any of the brand’s hybrid cars is one of the major highlights, and the brand claims that the engine is tuned for lower fuel consumption and enhanced thermal efficiency of up to 43 per cent.
The brand has not yet confirmed powertrain-related details, but it has confirmed that it will be paired with a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The DHT uses an electromagnetic e-clutch instead of a conventional system, and the brand says that it can respond up to four times faster when compared to a conventional setup. Hybrid vehicles are often paired with an e-CVT, but DHT uses mechanical gears too. The brand has also incorporated a 10-in-1 drive unit within the ADAPT platform, which combines a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 2-stage reduction gearbox.
MG ADAPT Platform: Key Highlights
- The MG ADAPT platform is expected to only be used for the brand’s new energy vehicles, and not ICE vehicles
- The brand claims that the petrol engine used in the ADAPT platform has been tuned for lower fuel consumption and enhanced thermal efficiency of up to 43 per cent
- The ADAPT will use a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) instead of a conventional e-CVT setup, which is often used with Hybrid vehicles
- The ADAPT platform also gets a 10-in-1 drive unit that combines a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 2-stage reduction gearbox
