Meet Indian Army’s Kalyani M4
The Kalyani M4 used by the Indian Army is not just any normal armoured vehicle. The Kalyani M4 is a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle. The vehicle is designed to move troops safely across a battlefield. The M4 has a weight of 14 to 16 tons, and it is made in India by Bharat Forge in partnership with Paramount, which is a South African company. The Kalyani M4 can accommodate up to 10 fully equipped personnel.

Indian Army Kalyani M4: Protection
The Kalyani M4 provides world-class ballistic protection, and it has STANAG Level 3-rated protection. It has a V-shaped hull that deflects blast energy away from the main cabin compartment. Moreover, the M4 can withstand up to 10 kg of TNT or Roadside IED Blasts under the floor and wheels. Additionally, it can run on punctured and shot tires, and it also has a built-in fire suppression system for the engine as well as the engine compartment. Not just that, it can also resist 7.62 mm armour-piercing rounds and can withstand up to a 50 kg TNT blast on the sides.

Indian Army Kalyani M4: Engine
The Kalyani M4 uses a 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It also has a central inflation system for extremely high altitude regions such as Ladakh. The engine used in the M4 can generate a peak power and torque output of 465 hp and 1,627 Nm of torque. It has a claimed top speed of 140 kilometres per hour, and it can cover up to 800 kilometres on a full tank.
