XP95 Ethanol Content:  Ethanol-blended fuel has remained one of the most talked-about topics on social media over the last few days. While social media platforms are full of misinformation and fake videos, some users have also raised genuine concerns. Many are looking out for petrol options with a lower ethanol content. Indian Oil’s XP95 premium octane petrol has recently become a new point of discussion, as people are curious about its ethanol content. Does IndianOil XP95 petrol contain 20 per cent ethanol or does it have lower ethanol content? Let’s take a look.

IndiaOil XP95 Petrol: What Is It?

In India, petrol is sold by retail fuel stations owned by PSUs, such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). While these PSUs offer standard petrol, they also offer several premium high-octane petroleum products. One such product with 95 octane is sold as Xp95 petrol by IndianOil. Notably, standard petrol sold in India has an octane rating of 91, whereas Xp95 petrol has a ‘95’ octane rating.

How Much Ethanol Is In Xp95?

Many believe that IndianOil’s Xp95 petrol contains a lower 5 or 10 per cent ethanol content. However, IndianOil recently responded to an RTI with the same query and clarified that Xp95 petrol doesn’t contain 10 or 5 per cent ethanol, and just like standard petrol, it also has 20 per cent ethanol blending. This essentially means that only Xp100 petrol offered by IndianOil, or premium petrol with a 100 octane rating, has pure petrol and 0 per cent of ethanol content.

Xp95 Petrol Price

The Xp95 petrol sold by IndianOil costs more than the standard petrol, as it has a higher octane rating. The cost of standard petrol ranges from Rs 102.12 per litre to Rs 113.51/litre across major Indian cities. The Xp95 petrol, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 109.24 per litre. It means that the Xp95 petrol costs Rs 7.12 more than the standard petrol. As mentioned earlier, Xp95 costs more as it has a higher 95 octane rating. But do you know what it means for your car?

What Does ‘95’ Octane Rating Mean For You?

The Xp95 petrol sold by IndianOil has a higher ‘95’ RON rating than the standard petrol, which has an octane rating of 91. The higher rating simply means better combustion under high heat and pressure. This means that the fuel type has better knocking properties, which simply means a smoother engine operation. While standard petrol is advised for normal cars with lower compression ratios, the use of Xp95 petrol is advised for luxury and performance cars with turbocharged engines that have a high compression ratio.
