MediaTek Dimensity 7100 Chipset Launched For Mid-Range Smartphones

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 7100, a new mid-range 5G chip that appears to be all about power efficiency, even performance, and the latest hardware support. The SoC has been listed on MediaTek's official product page and is the newest entry in the Dimensity family. No smartphone maker has committed to using the Dimensity 7100 in a phone so far, but it’s obvious which category this chipset has been designed for: upcoming affordable and upper mid-range phones.

Featuring a 6 nm process, the Dimensity 7100 aims to cut power use for everything from app performance and multimedia playback all the way to maintaining more efficient overall 5G connectivity.

MediaTek Dimensity 7100 Age and GPU Specifications

The Dimensity 7100 is powered and armed with an octa-core Arch-based CPU build for optimal balance of performance and power efficiency. It includes

- Four Arm Cortex-A78 performance cores running at up to 2.4 GHz

- Four Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz

As for GPU, the chipset comes with an Arm Mali-G610. MediaTek says the GPU should offer about 8% better performance than what the Dimensity 7050 series delivers, for smoother gaming, animations, and UI response times on devices that are powered by it.

5G, Connectivity, and Efficiency Improvements

The next-gen chipset combines a 3GPP Release-16 5G modem with peak download rates of up to 3.3 Gbps. Mediatek has also included its UltraSave 3.0+ technology, promising less battery drain during extended 5G usage by optimising modem-level power efficiency.

Other connectivity features include

- Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more reliable wireless internet connections

- Bluetooth 5.4 with better connections, reduced latency and improved power management for accessories

Memory, Storage, and Display Support

On the memory front, the Dimensity 7100 is equipped with

- Up to 5,500Mbps LPDDR5 RAM

- UFS 3.1 storage for faster app loading and file transfers

For displays, the chipset supports

- Up to Hz refresh rates

- 10-bit colour depth

- HDR video playback will bring out richer colours and improved visual fidelity on compatible screens

Camera Capabilities

MediaTek also provides the Dimensity 7100 with impressive camera support for its class. The chipset can handle

- Upto 200 Megapixel camera sensors

- Advanced camera and processing features on supported devices

Which is great for those mid-range smartphones which value high-res photography.
