Electronic Arts (EA) has already laid off employees across several studios working on Battlefield 6, despite the game turning out to be one of the biggest gaming releases in 2025. The cuts affect teams at Criterion, Dice, Ripple Effect and Motive Studios, all of which are labelled as Battlefield Studios. The decision is made regardless of Battlefield 6's strong sales and a successful console launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Layoffs Across Battlefield Studios
IGN, which reported that EA is reorganising its Battlefield dev teams, was the first to have news of the layoffs.
An EA representative told the publication that the organisational changes are being implemented across EA to better address the truths of teams aligned to the Battlefield community.

“We've made select changes within our Battlefield organisation to better align our teams around what matters most to our community. Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we're continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs,” the spokesperson said.
EA did not say how many employees were affected. Rather, all four studios involved in the development and post-launch support of Battlefield 6 are said to be safe.
The layoffs follow a major commercial success for Battlefield 6, which launched to universal praise on October 10.

Declining Player Numbers After Launch
In the cut-throat live service gaming ecosystem, it was hoped that Battlefield 6 would maintain a healthy number of players after initial sales weren't too bad.

Season 2 Update and Ongoing Support
EA postponed an update for Battlefield 6 in January to further refine future content. The update was finally released on February 17 and added:
- New maps
- New gameplay modes
- Multiple gameplay changes
However, the update did not significantly boost the game’s player numbers.
