The 2021 biopic Saina, starring Parineeti Chopra and directed by Amol Gupte, failed to impress at the box office. Recently, buzz erupted after netizens noticed Parineeti had unfollowed Saina Nehwal on Instagram. Reacting to it, Saina said she was unaware of the move and suggested that Parineeti may have simply moved on to her next project.

In a recent interview with senior journalist Vickey Lalwani, Saina Nehwal addressed the unfollowing buzz, saying she was unaware of Parineeti Chopra’s move. She felt the actress simply shifted focus after the film and moved on to her next project, adding that they never developed a personal friendship despite training together.

Saina shared, "Friendship requires spending a lot of time together, but there wasn’t enough time since the film had to be released quickly. We weren’t meeting every day. I helped her with skills — how to serve, movement on court, forehand and backhand. She may have also observed my behaviour and how I speak to portray it on screen. She worked very hard and performed extremely well. I even got emotional watching the film."
