India vs England, T20 World Cup 2026: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has placed his bets on the Harry Brook-led side to defeat the hosts India in Thursday’s 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final. Vaughan also stated that England have a better spin attack than their counterparts, apart from being exceptional in fielding and running between the wickets.
It is important to mention that India's bowling attack is led by the world's top-ranked spinner, Varun Chakaravarthy, who has taken 12 wickets — the highest for any spinner and tied for second overall — with an average of 15.33. However, Vaughan indicated that opponents have managed to 'get at' him or have figured him out.

Chakaravarthy boasts an impressive economy rate of 7.66 for the tournament. In contrast, only Liam Dawson from England has a better rate at 7.30, although he has taken two fewer wickets than Chakaravarthy.
“England have a better spin attack than India. (Varun) Chakravarthy has been got at. Dawson, (Adil) Rashid, and Will Jacks have been the best trio in the tournament in terms of spin. England’s fielding has been absolutely exceptional. They look really alert. England’s running between the wickets has been exceptional. The small percentage things you can control yourself, England seem to be doing very well. I just have a funny feeling England can get the job done in Mumbai," Vaughan told the BBC.

For India, Chakaravarthy has only all-rounder Axar Patel as support in the spin department. Gautam Gambhir excludes Kuldeep Yadav from the playing eleven due to his limited batting capabilities. In contrast, England can include Dawson, Rashid, Jacks, and even Rehan Ahmed, since all have batting skills. Nonetheless, England can be viewed as a more in-form side, having secured victories in their last five matches, including all three in the Super Eights.

“They seem to have found a way of winning. The win against New Zealand, even though a dead rubber, to get over the line was a great effort," Vaughan added.
