Contrary to preconceived notion that family planning is something to think about later, after careers are settled or life feels more stable. Many young couples are exploring fertility and family planning treatments in their late 20s. Doctors also advise that addressing reproductive health issues early makes a big difference in long-term fertility outcomes.
Treatment at a young age is not about rushing pregnancy, but about protecting options for the future. To know more about early treatments for fertility and family planning, The Daily Jagran turned to Dr Madhukar J Shinde, Fertility Specialist, Nova IVF Fertility, PCMC, Pune.

Why Early Treatment Matters For Family Planning?
1. In the 20s and early 30s, the body responds better to treatment with better outcomes.
2. Egg quality in women and sperm quality in men are generally healthier, hormone balance is easier to correct, and it is also possible to recover faster.
3. Conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, endometriosis, low sperm count, or hormonal imbalance often begin early but can progress if left untreated.
Treating these issues early helps restore natural cycles and improve overall reproductive health.
Benefits Of Timely Intervention:
let's take a look at major benefits of family planning in late 20s, according to Dr Madhukar J Shinde, Fertility Specialist :
1. Higher success rates: Treatments work better at a younger age.
2. Lifestyle changes or basic medicines may be enough.

Things That May Delay The Treatment:
- Ignore irregular periods
- painful cycles
- sexual health issues
- repeated infections
Many assume these issues settle on their own. Others delay medical care due to fear or social pressure. This delay often results in advanced disease, lower fertility potential, and more expensive or prolonged treatment later.

Lastly, an expert cautiously warns young couples that “Family planning should be proactive, not reactive. Early consultation helps identify risk factors, improve lifestyle habits, and plan pregnancies safely. It also allows couples to understand when Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) may be helpful.
She also added, “There is a lack of knowledge when it comes to ARTs. Early consultation during family planning helps couples understand whether measures such as lifestyle changes, cycle tracking, medicines, or minor procedures can help to conceive.”
So, opt for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) such as ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilisation ( IVF), or egg freezing. ARTs can be a boon for the patients and help them achieve pregnancy.
