Vijay Thalapathy has been in the spotlight after reports that his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam filed for divorce and he was later seen at a reception with Trisha Krishnan. On Saturday, the TVK chief attended International Women’s Day celebrations in Mamallapuram, announcing welfare schemes and urging supporters not to be troubled by his issues.

During the speech, Vijay said, "Recently, there have been a few problems happening. I see that you are getting hurt while fighting for it. I’m getting hurt seeing you guys getting hurt. I’ll take care of the problems. Don’t get hurt. Nothing to worry about."

Vijay also announced several welfare promises for women, including ₹2,500 in monthly financial assistance, a sovereign gold coin with a silk saree as a wedding gift for young women, and six free LPG cylinders for families if his party comes to power in the upcoming state Assembly elections, according to Asian News International (ANI).

According to Asian News International (ANI), Sangeetha Sornalingam filed for divorce from Vijay in early 2026 at the Chengalpattu District Court, seeking dissolution of their marriage and interim residential rights at their Chennai home. In the petition, she also alleged that Vijay had an adulterous relationship with a female actor.

Trisha Krishnan and Vijay have long attracted attention for their on-screen pairing in films like Ghilli and Leo, with Trisha also making a cameo in The Greatest of All Time. Vijay, who married Sangeetha Sornalingam in 1999 and has two children, will next be seen in Jana Nayagan, his final film before focusing on politics with his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
