After years of delay, the Tamil Nadu government has finally announced the State Film Awards for 2016–2022, honoring seven years of cinematic excellence. The awards recognize a blend of commercial and artistic achievements, with top honors going to stars like Dhanush, Karthi, and Suriya, as well as acclaimed directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj and Sudha Kongara. While most fans have welcomed the selections, not everyone is satisfied with the jury’s final decisions.

Mammootty's Peranbu Snubbed At Tamil Nadu State Film Awards

One of the most talked-about omissions at Tamil Nadu State Film Awards is director Ram’s 2018 film Peranbu, starring Mammootty, Anjali, and Sadhana. Although the film won a Best Cinematographer award for Theni Easwar, it failed to receive recognition in any other major category.

Following this, many netizens took to social media to question the jury’s credibility, pointing out that Peranbu received international acclaim but was largely overlooked at the state awards. Several users also wondered whether the jury had fully reviewed all the eligible films before finalising the winners.

Reacting to Peranbu snub, a netizen wrote on X, "Not Even A Single Award For The Film in Tamilnadu State Awards. Film Got Censored in 2018 & I Think So Jury Members Forgot To Watch The Film!" Another user wrote, "A Film which could earn an international recognition failed to be applauded by the National and State levels. Sadhana The Girl must be applauded for her acting instead Jyothika was awarded for CCV in State."
