Singer Sona Mohapatra has criticised rapper Badshah for his song Tateeree, which sparked controversy shortly after its release. The song has been receiving backlash on social media platforms due to its lyrics and video, which are alleged to have shown young girls in school uniforms in an objectionable manner. Later, the rapper apologised for the song, and it has been taken down from the platforms.

Why the Badshah Song Tateeree Faced Backlash

Badshah’s song Tateeree, which came out on March 1, 2026, soon gained popularity for the wrong reasons. Some viewers and activists felt that the song had explicit content and objectified women. The presence of girls wearing school uniforms in the video also contributed to the negative comments on social media.

Many social media users argued that such portrayals send the wrong message and normalise problematic behaviour in pop culture. After that, the rapper issued an apology and informed that the song has been removed from every platform.

Sona Mohapatra strongly criticised the song and the broader culture of such content in music. In her post, she wrote: “Not the first time we’ve seen this template. A man puffing up his chest, flexing masculinity, objectifying women, and projecting himself as some irresistible hero while women exist merely to drool around him.”

She also said that such portrayals are not creative but repetitive and harmful. According to her: “This isn’t creativity. It’s the laziest trope in pop culture.” Mohapatra also questioned the responsibility of artists in shaping society’s mindset.

Comment on Cultural Responsibility

In the same post, the singer also pointed out the social implications of such content. While referring to the situation, the singer wrote: “Artists shape imagination. You can challenge misogyny or profit from it.”

She also pointed out the justification offered by the creators and advised them to do better. The singer concluded the post with a sharp remark aimed at the industry and the audience: “Badshah & this lot, do better… grow a brain or a soul?”
