India vs South Africa T20 World Cup: The Proteas Opener Quinton de Kock has revealed that South Africa's painful T20 World Cup 2024 final defeat against India remains a closed chapter for the Proteas, and the team discussed their heartbreaking loss in the summit clash.
India's seven-run win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final was marked by a dramatic turnaround as the Proteas were dominating the match, needing just 30 runs in the last five overs with six wickets in hand.
Pace ace Jasprit Bumrah's masterful spell controlled the leak of runs while Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh manipulated the pressure to claim crucial wickets.
Heinrich Klaasen's dismissal in the 17th over by Hardik Pandya proved too costly for the Proteas as the side could not recover.
Now, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host a T20 World Cup Super 8 rematch between India and South Africa on Sunday, marking the first encounter between the two teams in the event.
“To be honest, after that game, we just forgot about it. In all honesty, none of us wanted to speak about it. We went home and went through our own processes about how to deal with it. That’s pretty much it. We have never really spoken about it," de Kock said in a pre-match press conference.
“I think the nature of World Cups is that it doesn’t allow favouritism. At any moment, someone can win in a game out of nowhere. So that’s the thing, it’s quite a fickle game, World Cups, especially T20 World Cups. Games can be changed in a matter of two to three overs just by one individual," he added.

De Kock considers the upcoming clash between India and South Africa will be a close-knit game, with the team bearing pressure better on the day likely to emerge victorious.
“I think that’s what’s going to make for quite a good game tomorrow, because we’ve played against each other quite a bit over the last two months. And to be honest, the teams haven’t really changed much. So, I think it’s more when you’re out there on the pressure side, who deals with the pressure better and wins the small moments in the game," de Kock added.
