US-Iran War: The US-Israel war with Iran entered its 12th day, creating a global oil and gas crisis. US President Donald Trump and Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, have not shown any clue to end the conflict in the Middle East. In a fresh threat, Trump said the US may hit Iran 20 times harder if it does not surrender. On the other side, Iran said the fate of the war will be decided by Iran only.
Where Is US-Iran's War Heading?
Though Iran's key nuclear sites are in tatters after the US bombed them during the 12-day Israel-Iran war in June, it still has highly-enriched uranium that is reportedly a technical step away from weapons-grade levels. Trump told reporters the war with Iran started because that country was working on a new site for developing material for nuclear weapons to replace one bombed last year by the US. The dispute over the nuclear programme is the core issue which triggered the war. Now, both sides have shown no willingness to stop the armed conflict, which means the war may continue for more days. However, it is hoped that the spiral effect of the war on other countries may oblige the warring nations to resort to a diplomatic solution.

140 US Service Members Injured Since Start Of Iran War
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said that about 140 US service members have been wounded in the 10 days of conflict with Iran. The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said. On the other hand, over a thousand Iranians have lost their lives in the ongoing war.
Why Could US-Israel Not Able To Defeat Iran Despite Killing Its Supreme Leader?
Although the US and Israel are technologically very powerful, they are still far away from victory on Iranian land. On the first day of 'Operation Epic Fury', the US-Israel succeeded in killing Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and destroying key strategic sites in Tehran, but later, Tehran continued to retaliate by striking US bases in the neighbouring countries.
Here Are Key Reasons Why US-Israel Could Not Win War
1. Large and Adverse Geographic Location: Iran's area is approximately 1.6 million square kilometres, covering mountains, deserts, and remote terrain, making it the 17th largest country in the world. The adverse geography of Iran made a ground invasion very difficult and costly. The US and Israel have launched airstrikes, and with the launch of missiles and drones, it is not easy to end Iran's defence capacity.
2. Strong Missile And Drone Capability: Unlike Iraq and Taliban, Iran possess the largest ballistic missile and drone network in the Middle East, which is why even after 12 days, Iran can retaliate from different locations of the nation.
3. Mosaic Defence Strategy: Iran's military organisation structure is different from other nations as it does not rely on a centralised structure, which means killing a top military leader will not collapse the entire armed force. Iran adopted a 'Mosaic Defence Strategy, in which armed forces are decentralised and semi-independent. Every command and military unit operates autonomously.
4. Axis of Resistance: Iran's defence largely depends on the Axis of Resistance, an Iran-led military coalition in West Asia aimed at countering the influence of the US-Israel. Non-state armed groups, including Hezbollah (Lebanon), Hamas (Gaza), Houthi forces (Yemen), and various militias in Iraq, are part of the Axis of Resistance. They are actively engaging in the ongoing war.
5. No Clear Political Objective: So far, Trump has not shown any clear political objective for the war. Changing the regime is very difficult for the US, as Iran is a different country. Considering past experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US is unlikely to go for regime change.
