Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Thursday said that Iranian naval drones have hit the United States aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, Iranian media reported.
In its report, Tehran Times quoted a spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters saying that the aircraft carrier was targeted while it was 340 km off the Iranian maritime borders near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has not presented any evidence to substantiate its claim, while the United States has issued no statement. The spokesperson added that the attack prompted the aircraft carrier and its accompanying destroyers to withdraw from the area quickly.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters spokesperson further claimed that the ships have fled at high speed more than 1,000 km away from the location.
A couple of days ago, Iran had claimed that it launched four ballistic missiles at the aircraft carrier, a claim rejected by the United States military. The US Central Command had said that neither missiles nor drones involved in the incident came close to the vessel.
USS Abraham Lincoln was sent to the Gulf as part of an "armada" at the end of January. US President Donald Trump had ordered the move of the carrier to the region “just in case" as tensions were running high between the US and Iran back then over Tehran's violent crackdown on protestors in the country.

The Middle East conflict has already spiralled into huge naval clashes as US submarine torpedoed IRIS DENA, an Iranian frigate off the Sri Lankan coast, as it was returning from India after completing a naval exercise. Reacting sharply to the attack, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said that the strike took place far from their territorial waters.
"The US has perpetrated an atrocity at sea, 2,000 miles away from Iran's shores. Frigate Dena, a guest of India's Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning,” Araghchi said in a post on X.
