US-Iran-Israel War Updates: The United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran after the talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear enrichment program ended in Geneva without a breakthrough. A state of emergency was declared in Israel following the attacks.
US President Donald Trump confirmed Washington's involvement, sharing a video on Truth Social stating that the United States had initiated a 'major combat operation' in Iran. "They can never have a nuclear weapon," Trump said, reiterating his administration's long-standing position.
The White House has been pressing Iran to abandon its nuclear enrichment. However, Iran has insisted that it will never abandon its nuclear programme.
Explosions Rock Iran's Capital
Explosions rocked Iran's capital, Tehran, on Saturday as the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes across Iran. Several political officials and senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were reportedly killed in the attack.
The attack came as talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear enrichment program ended in Geneva without a breakthrough. Iran's foreign ministry said, "This renewed military ‘aggression’ comes while Iran and the US were in the midst of a diplomatic process".
According to reports, the strikes targeted Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. Satellite images showing smoke billowing from the Supreme Leader's residential compound went viral on social media, raising speculation about the whereabouts of Khamenei.
Representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in India, Dr Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, said, "The Supreme Leader is in good health and never has a fear of America or any other people... He will continue by his dignity and wisdom, and I hope that we will win this war."
Iran Launches Retaliatory Attacks
Iran carried out retaliatory strikes, reportedly launching around 400 missiles toward Israel. Iranian forces also targeted a US military base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
According to a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report, the United States has eight persistent bases and 11 other military sites in the Middle East.
