US Introduces 'America First' Visa System

Speaking at the US Embassy Support Annex Building dedication ceremony on Saturday, Rubio said the US-India relationship has grown significantly over the years, especially in trade and investment. He highlighted that the two countries have recorded more than USD 20 billion in investments between them. Announcing the new visa system, Rubio said that it will give priority to business professionals who help strengthen these ties.

What's Behind The Move?

He explained that the idea behind the tool is to make the visa process faster and more efficient for applicants who support US interests. It includes professionals involved in trade deals, investments, and commercial partnerships. Rubio added that the facility is not only for visa applicants but also supports US embassy staff, including consular officers and other employees, who work in India.

He further noted that the new system will help the US government save money and improve efficiency by making visa processing faster, more accurate, and more streamlined. “We're introducing a new America First visa schedule that prioritises business professionals that strengthen these ties," Rubio said.

Rubio added, "But the facility, as I said, is not just for those who are applying for visas. It's also for you, the Americans who work here, the men and women of this mission, who are at the front lines every single day of advancing America's national interest and America's national security."

How Will It Benefit Indian Professionals?

This move is expected to make visa processing faster for Indian business professionals, investors, and skilled workers who are directly linked to trade and economic cooperation with the US. It will also ease travel for work-related activities.
