Mojataba Khamenei, Iran's newly appointed Supreme Leader, survived the strikes by the United States and Israel on the first day of war but sustained injuries.

According to a report by CNN, citing a source familiar with the development, Khamenei's foot was fractured and he sustained some minor injuries, including a bruise around the left eye and a small cut on his face.

While there was no official confirmation of his injuries, the reports about them were floating for a past few days. The CNN, citing an Israeli source, had earlier reported that Khamenei was injured in an assassination attempt last week.

Mojtaba, a hardliner like his father and his predecessor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was appointed as the new Supreme Leader on March 8. On February 28, day one of the strike, senior Khamenei, who ruled the country for 37 years from 1989, was killed.

Mojtaba has been an influential figure in the country's politics, as, without holding any official position, he cultivated close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and was a key figure behind the rise of former Iranian President Masoud Ahmadinejad.

He helped him to rise from being Tehran's mayor to the country's president. In 2009, when Ahmadinejad's election triggered protests, he was believed to be in direct charge of the Basij paramilitary force, which crushed the protests violently.

As the war has entered its 12th day, there seems to be less possibility of an earlier end to the escalation despite Trump's repeated claims against it. In his latest remarks, he said that the Iran war will end anytime he wants it to end.

He claimed that Iran's capabilities are reduced significantly in 12 days, and there is little left to attack. Trump said, "Little this and that...Any time I want it to end, it will end."

Earlier in the day, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said, "This operation will continue without any time limit, as long as necessary, until we achieve all the objectives and decide the outcome of the campaign".
