Former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reportedly killed in an Israeli-US airstrike in Tehran, according to Iran’s state-linked Iranian Labour News Agency on Sunday.
The report claimed that the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak area of northeast Tehran, resulting in his death along with several of his bodyguards. International media outlets suggested that the strike likely occurred late Saturday night, though there has been no immediate independent confirmation of the incident.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013. Before assuming the presidency, he held positions as governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
Following the completion of his two presidential terms, he was appointed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the Expediency Discernment Council, a key advisory body to the Office of the Supreme Leader.
