The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday condemned the military attack on the Thai commercial vessel, Mayuree Naree, in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that "India deplores" the targeting of commercial ships amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
According to a statement by the ship's Thai-listed operator, Precious Shipping, the vessel was struck by "two projectiles of unknown origin" while transiting one of the world's most critical maritime checkpoints, the Strait of Hormuz, igniting a fire and damaging its engine room.
"Three crew members are reported missing and believed to be trapped in the engine room," Reuters quoted Precious Shipping as saying.
