A fire broke out at Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, prompting temporary safety measures in the Midfield Concourse.
According to airport authorities, the fire occurred at around 3:03 pm local time (0700 GMT) in an electrical engineering device room near Gate 212. As a precaution, boarding bridges at Gates 212, 214 and 216 were temporarily closed to ensure passenger safety.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control by 4.01 pm. Authorities evacuated an area measuring approximately 100 metres by 40 metres as a precaution, affecting around 30 people.

Netizens said the airport’s automated people mover service was suspended during the incident, leaving several passengers stranded near Gate 200. Some flights were also delayed due to the disruption.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Airport Authority said it is working closely with the Fire Services Department to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
