1. The teddy bear was inspired by a real hunting incident involving the 26th U.S. President, Theodore Roosevelt, in 1902. 

2. During the trip, Roosevelt refused to shoot a captured bear because he felt it was unsportsmanlike. 

3. The incident became famous after a political cartoon was published in a newspaper. 

4. Political artist Clifford Berryman drew the cartoon. 

5. The toy was created by Brooklyn shop owner Morris Michtom and his wife, Rose. 

6. Michtom named the toy “Teddy’s Bear” after Roosevelt’s nickname. 

7. According to the American History site, Roosevelt reportedly permitted the use of his name for the toy.
