Spotify Launches ‘About the Song’ Feature To Reveal Stories Behind Music

Spotify continues to improve their discovery experience by unveiling About the Song. Following Page Match's debut, this addition aims to give listeners more context on the music they are currently listening to through short, swipeable story cards displayed within the Now Playing view. Ultimately, Spotify aims to help users understand the meaning better and the background and creative inspiration behind their favourite tracks.

What Is Spotify’s About the Song Feature?

According to the official announcement, About the Song is “a new way to explore the stories behind music”. The feature introduces short, interactive story cards that appear in the Now Playing screen on supported tracks.

These cards “explore the meaning behind the music you're hearing” and are summarised using information from third-party sources. Spotify says the goal is “to surface interesting details and behind-the-scenes moments” related to songs, giving listeners added context without leaving the app.

How to Access About the Song

To view About the Song, users need to:

- Open the Now Playing view while listening to a supported track

- Scroll down to locate the About the Song card

- Swipe through the story cards to explore song details

The feature only appears for tracks where supporting information is available.

Availability and Rollout Details

About the Song is currently in beta and is being rolled out gradually.
