Nothing has officially introduced the Nothing Phone 4a and Nothing Phone 4a Pro at a launch event in London, expanding its mid-range smartphone lineup globally, including India. The new devices continue the company’s distinctive transparent design language while bringing noticeable upgrades to the signature Glyph lighting system and internal hardware.
Both smartphones will be available for purchase in India through Flipkart. The standard Nothing Phone 4a will arrive first, while the Pro model will follow later this month.

Redesigned Glyph Lighting System
A major highlight of the new phones is the redesigned Glyph lighting interface. On the Nothing Phone 4a, the company has introduced what it calls the Glyph Bar. This new lighting setup uses 63 mini LEDs arranged across seven square light zones.
Each zone can be controlled individually, allowing the phone to display more detailed lighting patterns for alerts and notifications. The lights can reach brightness levels of up to 3,500 nits, which Nothing claims is about 40 percent brighter than the Glyph Interface found on the Phone 3a.
According to the company, the lighting system also incorporates patented technologies such as dual-colour injection-moulded lampshades. These design changes help prevent light leakage and remove yellow edges, ensuring the illumination appears cleaner and more uniform, even under bright sunlight.
The Glyph Bar also adds a bit of practicality. Apart from notifications, it can act as a soft fill light while capturing photos or recording videos. It also supports progress-based alerts that visually indicate activities such as incoming calls, charging progress, timers, and messages.
Users can customise lighting patterns for specific contacts or apps, pairing them with Nothing’s signature sound effects. The idea is to make alerts more expressive while reducing the need to constantly glance at the screen.
Phone 4a Pro Introduces Glyph Matrix
The Nothing Phone 4a Pro pushes the lighting concept further with a new feature called the Glyph Matrix. This system uses 137 mini LEDs arranged across a larger lighting area on the back of the phone.
Even though it technically uses fewer lights than some earlier implementations, the design covers around 57 percent more surface area and is said to be up to twice as bright, reaching around 3,000 nits.
The Glyph Matrix continues to support Nothing’s playful “Glyph Toys” features such as Battery, Timer, Digital Clock, Solar Path, and Glyph Mirror. These tools can also be integrated into the always-on display experience.
Just like the standard model, users can customise lighting patterns for contacts and notifications, turning alerts into visual signals without needing to unlock the phone.
