Assassin's Creed 2026 Game Update: Ubisoft was onto something with a multiplayer co-op Assassin's Creed game, but it seems that the game will not make it to the shelves, as the game has reportedly been cancelled against the backdrop of company restructuring that happened before. The game, internally codenamed Assassin's Creed League, was under development at Ubisoft's Annecy Team, whose operations were recently ceased. Although, according to a report by a French outlet, Origami, this specific title was not amongst the six other cancelled projects.
This title, codenamed Assassin's Creed, was supposed to be a cooperative game, which would have allowed a team-up between four assassins, which might have taken place in a feudal Japan setting, where its latest edition, Shadows, is situated, according to a report by Origami.
According to the report, Assassin’s Creed League was cancelled, with the decision communicated to the Annecy team sometime "last week" itself, affecting around a dozen employees. Apparently Assassin's Creed League was one of the projects being handled by the studio which is now dissolved.

AC League Was Once Just A DLC
The co-op project was initially conceived as a DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, meant to wrap up the season pass with scripted missions for up to four players. It later grew into a standalone title that was expected to lay the groundwork for multiplayer experiences across future Assassin’s Creed games. Ubisoft Annecy, known for handling multiplayer on Brotherhood, Black Flag, and Unity, was leading development.
Although it was just going to be like another extra added DLC, the idea started to take shape as its own standalone co-op game, with a minimal scale that would have employed the use of AC Shadow's open-world map. The report also claims that Ubisoft was actually planning to launch an invitational alpha playtest session in May of 2026.
The report states that Vantage Studio was behind the cancellation of this project last week, which is a subdivision under Ubisoft, which took care of the three biggest franchises, including Assassin's Creed. This cancellation forms a part of the restructuring the company just went through.
Ubisoft Restructured
This happened last month only with the company dissolving its previous operations and restructuring it into five main "creative houses", and these houses are supposed to handle everything about the game from development to marketing and finally sales, an end-to-end approach. Vantage is a creative house in that sense, introduced in October 2025, with three major titles in its pocket: the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six series.
The most disappointing news for fans here was the cancellation of the Prince of Persia remake; apart from that, seven other titles were also delayed as a part of the restructuring.
