Govt Will Implement HC Directives: CM Fadnavis

The chief minister said the government is deliberating on finding legal options to resolve the standoff over the Maratha quota demand.

His remarks come shortly after the High Court noted that Jarange and other activists have prima facie violated the conditions.

The court stated that since the protesters do not have valid permission to continue the demonstration, it expects the state government to follow the due procedure laid down in law by initiating appropriate steps.

The High Court ruled the government shall also ensure that no more protesters, as claimed by Jarange, shall enter the city henceforth.

"The government will implement the High Court directives. There have been sporadic incidents (related to Maratha demonstrations) which have been cleared by police within minutes," the chief minister told reporters in Pune. He rejected the charge that law and order had collapsed.

Jarange Gives Up Water, Protesters Disrupt Traffic In South Mumbai

Meanwhile, the doctors checked the health of Jarange, who stopped drinking water on Monday as his hunger strike at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai over the Maratha quota demand entered the fourth day.

Hundreds of Maratha community members seeking quota gathered at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and other areas in south Mumbai, causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. The police diverted traffic heading towards CSMT area, while the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking also suspended, diverted or curtailed buses on all routes leading to CSMT, according to officials.
