Maharashtra Crime: In an absolutely horrific and criminal act, a 28-year-old man who appeared to be a dedicated father of three to the world, killed one of his 6-year-old twin daughters to remove the hurdle of his political aspiration. The crime is rooted in the two-child policy for the local body election.
The incident occurred in the Kerur village of Maharashtra's Nanded district, when a father of three, 6-year-old twin daughters and a three-year-old son, Pandurang Kondmangale, killed his one daughter, Prachi, to overcome an election rule hurdle that was keeping him from contesting Panchayat elections.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Kondmangale, who ran a barber shop, became politically aspirational as preparations for the village elections, scheduled for June, began. The Maharashtra Panchayat Raj Act barred him from becoming Sarpanch of his village, as it prevents candidates with more than two children from contesting rural local body polls.
As per Sau Chaitanya, the Nizamabad Commissioner of Police was quoted as saying by Express, he went to the sitting sarpanch of the village, Ganesh Shinde, for advice. “The two were friends, and they allegedly decided to get rid of one of his children, Prachi, the elder of the twins," said Chaitanya.
They first planned to put the child up for adoption, but abandoned the idea as she would remain in the official record. “He then thought of abandoning the child. But what if she came back to the village?” Chaitanya said. “The two then allegedly conspired to kill the child and make it seem like an accident.”
How A Father Killed His Daughter To Contest Election
Kondmangale took his elder daughter to Telangana’s Nizamsagar Canal in neighbouring Nizamabad district on a motorcycle. “He allegedly pushed the girl into the water and fled the scene,” the officer added.
After receiving information from farmers, Telangana police recovered the body and circulated the photographs. “The pictures were circulated widely on social media, WhatsApp and newspapers,” said Chaitanya.
One of the villagers identified the girl and alerted the police. After strict interrogation, the deceased's father confesses to killing her to contest a mere election.
