Ways To Recover From Bhang Hangover: Holi means colours, music, joy and celebration. However, Holi rarely ends when the colours fade. For some, it ends with a pounding head, a dry throat and a stomach that refuses to cooperate. Bhang thandai, festive cocktails, that extra refill someone insisted on, it all feels harmless in the moment.
The body disagrees later. If you overdid it, here’s how to slow yourself down without turning the day into a total write-off. Make sure to follow these tips to deal with that hangover.
1. Hydration Is Important:
According to Dr Manjusha Agarwal, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, “Alcohol and bhang tend to cause dehydration. Make sure to drink enough water and coconut water to be able to restore fluid balance and reduce headaches. So, don’t skip hydration at all.”

Dr Ritula Talwar, Homoeopathic Physician and Senior Manager, PMT, Zeon Lifesciences, suggests, “Before tea. Before scrolling. Drink water. Two or three glasses, slowly. Not chugged. Give your body a few minutes to absorb it. Through the day, rotate in coconut water, buttermilk, ORS or even simple nimbu paani with a pinch of salt. You’re not ‘detoxing,’ you’re restoring what you lost. That alone makes a visible difference within hours.
2. Eat Light, Nutritious Meals:
As per Dr Talwar, “Your stomach lining is already irritated because of the alcohol you consumed, and your digestion might feel sluggish and bloated if you had bhang.
Therefore, opt for easy-to-digest foods like fruits, porridge, khichdi, or soups. Foods loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, like bananas, oranges, and leafy greens, all help when it comes to replenishing nutrients lost due to alcohol consumption. Avoid eating fried, oily, and processed foods.

3. Take Proper Rest
According to Dr Manjusha Agarwal, you must allow your body to recover. Short naps or light rest can reduce fatigue and help your liver process toxins in an effective way. Avoid strenuous activity until you feel fully recovered.

4. Detox Drinks
Make sure to have warm lemon water, peppermint tea, and ginger tea to overcome dizziness, nausea, and improve digestion. These drinks also support liver function and flush out toxins from the body.
Ginger tea if you feel queasy. Peppermint if your stomach feels tight. Even warm water with lemon and honey is enough. Jeera-ajwain boiled in water can ease the heaviness that bhang sometimes leaves behind. You’re aiming for comfort, not stimulation.

5. Take A Shower To Feel Better:
A warm shower can make you feel relaxed and even soothe your muscles. Adding a few drops of essential oils like peppermint or eucalyptus can help you feel better.

Lastly, Dr Ritula Talwar, Homoeopathic Physician, cautiously states that, “Accept That You’re Not at 100%. Even if you slept eight hours, it may not have been proper rest. Alcohol fragments sleep. Cannabis alters it. You wake up technically rested but mentally dull. She also suggests, “always eat before drinking. Alternate every glass with water. Stop earlier than you think you need to.”

Holi is meant to leave colour on your clothes, not consequences the next day. If symptoms are severe with persistent vomiting, confusion, chest discomfort, don’t wait it out. Get medical help. Otherwise, hydration, light food and patience usually do the job.
