In a significant development, Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar. A decorated former officer of the Indian Army, Hasnain is renowned for his expertise in counter-insurgency operations and strategic leadership during his military career.

Know About His Early Life And Education

Hasnain pursued his early education at Sherwood College in Nainital. He went on to pursue his higher studies at the University of Delhi. To further strengthen his expertise in defence and strategic affairs, Hasnain attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in London and the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Hawaii, News18 reported.

Military Career

Commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles in 1974 after graduating from the Indian Military Academy, Hasnain served nearly four decades in the Army, holding several key command roles, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

One of his notable assignments was commanding the 15 Corps (Chinar Corps) in Srinagar, responsible for overseeing military operations across the Kashmir Valley.

He later commanded 21 Corps, one of the army's strike formations. He has also served as the Military Secretary at Army Headquarters before retiring in 2013.

Honours And Awards

In recognition of his distinguished service, Hasnain was conferred with several prestigious awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Sena Medal (SM).

Post-Retirement Contributions

Following his retirement from the Indian Army, Hasnain remained actively involved in academic and strategic initiatives. In 2018, he was appointed Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, where he worked on enhancing higher education in the region.

He has also been an active commentator on national security and geopolitical affairs, sharing insights from his extensive military experience.
