The investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma has entered a crucial phase after a second post-mortem was conducted by a team of forensic experts from AIIMS Delhi. Doctors said the final findings will not be immediate as several scientific examinations are still pending.
“Twisha's autopsy report will take time, since some laboratory tests are needed, like histopathology and viscera tests,” ANI quoted Dr Sudhir Gupta, Head of the Forensic Department at AIIMS Delhi.

He added that the AIIMS team would return to Delhi carrying “samples, photographs, video, and written findings” collected during the autopsy process.
Twisha Sharma’s brother, Harshit Sharma, performed her last rites at the crematorium in Bhopal on Sunday, around 5 pm, after the second post-mortem report.
Family Says First Post-Mortem Had ‘Shortcomings’
Sharma died on May 12 at her matrimonial home, after which her family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental torture. Family members said they had lost confidence in the first autopsy and therefore demanded a second examination supervised by independent experts.
“There were a lot of shortcomings in the first post-mortem, and we have a lot of hope with the second one that will bring clarity on the things that were not there in the first one,” a relative said.
The relative also welcomed judicial intervention in the matter, adding, “Now that the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance, something will definitely be done.”
‘Transparency We Wanted Is Coming Forth’
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the family directly spoke to the AIIMS doctors before the procedure and was assured of a fair process.
“The team listened to our grievances and assured us that the post-mortem will be conducted in a non-biased manner. We are hopeful that the team will work out good findings because the whole point of a second post-mortem is if someone feels something is missing,” he said.
Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma, also expressed confidence in the ongoing probe. “We are all very hopeful and waiting. This is a big step ahead, and we are all happy that the transparency we wanted is coming forth,” he said.
Supreme Court Takes Suo Motu Cognisance
The Supreme Court has now taken suo motu cognisance of the matter under the title, “In Re Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Matrimonial Home.” A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant is expected to hear the matter on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday, a Bhopal court sent Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, to seven days of police custody till May 29. Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on May 22 after allegedly remaining absconding for several days.
