Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Saturday unveiled a slew of welfare promises aimed at benefiting women, if his party comes to power in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. These promises include monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for women heads of families, a gold and a silk saree for marriage, six free LPG cylinders a year and free bus travel for women in state-run buses in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu is likely to go to the polls in a few months, with the ruling DMK seeking another term. While the AIADMK and BJP have an alliance, Vijay's TVK is contesting independently.
