Nishant Kumar, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, formally joined the Janata Dal United (JDU) on Sunday, ending long speculation over his future in politics. His entry time in active politics is crucial, as JDU veteran Nitish Kumar has surprisingly decided to contest the Rajya Sabha polls after holding the top post for over two decades. The reports suggest that Nishant is likely to become the deputy chief minister in the new formation, as Bihar is set to get a new CM, probably from the BJP for the first time.
Nishant Kumar's Entry Into Politics
Nishant, at the age of 50, has decided to enter politics after staying away from it for a very long time. While he remained active in social activities, Nishant never contested any poll or held any post in the party. The senior party leaders, on numerous occasions, asked him to join the party. However, this could not have happed earlier as Nitish Kumar has been a vocal critic of dynastic politics.

With Nitish Kumar moving to national politics, Nishant has finally joined the JDU and is also likely to get key posts in the government and party.
Key Challenges For Nishant Kumar
Nishant Kumar is set to begin his political career; however, he is likely to face several challenges, as his father is already past his prime. With very little experience in politics and his soft-spoken nature, Kumar will have to get the factions of the party to work together. Apart from this, there has been an internal rivalry in the NDA over the status of "big brother" within the alliance. With Nitish Kumar's exit from state politics, Nishant will have the challenge of maintaining the party's dominance, especially in the southern districts.
However, along with challenges, Nishant Kumar also has the opportunity to work for the people and continue the legacy of his father, "Sushasan babu".
