The No-confidence motion brought against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Bila was dismissed on Wednesday after the majority of the members voted against it in a voice vote.
The motion was brought by the Opposition and was presided over by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal. After the voices against the motion echoed louder amid intense sloganeering by the Opposition MP, who had questioned the legality of the appointment of Pal by the Speaker under question.
The presiding officer then adjourned the House for the day after the vote. The Opposition members were protesting and sloganeering, demanding an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jagdambika Pal.
Before the motion was put to a vote, Pal urged Opposition MPs to return to their seats. As the Opposition continued with their protest, Pal proceeded to seek the sense of the House. A voice vote then rejected the resolution.
The debate was initiated by Congress's Gaurav Gogoi, who said the move was not personally against Om Birla but aimed at "to protect the dignity of the House".

He said that part of the Motion stated that the Speaker "has ceased to maintain the impartial attitude necessary to command the confidence of all sections of the House".
"In his partisan conduct, he (Birla) disregards the rights of Members and makes pronouncements and rulings calculated to affect and undermine those rights; and that he espouses the version of the ruling party on controversial matters," he added.
Earlier in the day, Shah launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, accusing them of questioning the very foundation of India's democracy by bringing a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.
Shah said, "The Constitution has given the role of a mediator to the Speaker. You cast suspicions on the mediator. In 75 years, both the Houses have made the foundation of our democracy deeper than 'paatal'. Opposition has questioned the reputation of that deep foundation".
