Jaipur Woman Dies By Suicide Over Husband's Abuse; Old Video Of Assault Before Child Surfaces Later

A disturbing case of domestic violence has emerged from Jaipur, Rajasthan, where a woman died by suicide after reportedly facing repeated abuse by her husband. CCTV footage from inside the couple’s home has captured several incidents of assault in front of their children. Police have launched an investigation and are examining the footage.

The woman, identified as Anu, had married Gautam Meena, an executive engineer in the Public Works Department, in 2015. According to an NDTV report, citing her family, Gautam allegedly started harassing and physically assaulting her soon after marriage. He assaulted her often after consuming alcohol.

Assault Captured In CCTV

The CCTV footage reportedly shows Gautam shouting at Anu, pulling her hair, and slamming her head while their young son stands nearby helplessly watching. In another clip, Gautam can be seen punching and smashing a flatscreen TV during an argument. Their daughter told reporters that she had seen her father assaulting her mother several times but was too scared to speak about it.

"He used to come home drunk. My mother used to stay quiet. Even then he thrashed her," the girl said. Anu’s brother said the family had been worried for a long time because she frequently complained about the abuse. "She came to us one night with the children. She stayed with us for two-three days. He used to torture her. He would drink and then blame everything on her," Anu’s brother said.

Their 10-year-old son also recalled a disturbing incident in which his father came home and allegedly assaulted his mother. He said his mother used to ask him to give her salt water whenever her blood pressure dropped. On one occasion, when he tried to help her, his father stopped him.

Woman Dies By Suicide

Anu died by suicide on April 7. Before taking the step, she reportedly made a video call to her husband and showed him what she was about to do. She was rushed to hospital by her neighbours, but she could not be saved. As part of the ongoing investigation, police are now examining all CCTV footage related to the case.
