Cockroach Janta Party Row: While the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is at its peak, a serious yet humorous online initiative - Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which was born just a few days ago - has grabbed the attention of the youth and become the latest sensation on social media. This digital movement is raging across Instagram and X (Twitter), amassing a massive following that has surpassed even the official accounts of India’s largest political parties. A section of people started comparing the CJP with the IAC (India Against Corruption), which was also started online and later changed the political landscape.

What Is The Cockroach Janta Party?
The Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical digital initiative against corruption and other causes, was launched by Abhijeet Dipke on May 16, following Chief Justice of India Surya Kant's "cockroaches" remark made on some unemployed youth. However, the CJI clarified that the comment was for only those who possessed fake legal degrees. Dipke caught the word and clung to his initiative around it. Now, his satirical initiative turned into a storm on social media, drawing attention from the Opposition leaders like Congress' Shashi Tharoor, Shiv Shena (UBT)'s Priyanka Chaturvedi and others.

What Was India Against Corruption Movement?
The India Against Corruption movement created a similar storm riding on the youth's support, but it was offline as that was not the era of social media like today. The IAC movement reached its peak during 2011-12 after activist Anna Hazare joined it. He led a historic dharna at Ramlila Maidan and Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in 2011, mobilising people from across the country. The entire movement was against the corruption, and it demanded a strict Jan Lokpal Bill. The movement produced several big politicians, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi and a political outfit - Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Now, after 15 years, India has a Lokpal law, and AAP is a prominent political force.

What Is The Future Of The CJP?
On the other hand, the CJP focuses on youth unemployment, exam paper leaks, inflation, and systemic apathy. Its style is humorous, meme-based, and satirical. Its symbol is a cockroach, which survives even in difficult conditions. Like the IAC, it is also raising people's woes and questioning the system and politicians. Yet there are stark differences between the two. While IAC was a activits-led, transparent movement, the CJP is still vague. No one knows who all are behind Dipke.

A few people are also questioning the timing of the online initiative as the Punjab Assembly elections are approaching, and Dipke has a past with the ruling party, AAP. As of now, the CJP looks targeting only the Bharatiya Janata Party, which also raises questions on its hidden political agenda.
However, a big chunk of youth is praising the courage of Dipke as he demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue. It would be a hurry to reach a conclusion about the CJP. The fact is that its popularity is growing. Since it has no infrastructure or office in India, no major change is seen on the ground. It is difficult to predict that the movement will bring about any big change on the ground. However, some incidents started appearing in which people used the cockroach as a symbol to protest the system.

A social activist, Deepak Sharma, donned a 'cockroach' costume on Friday to protest the severe pollution in the Yamuna River in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He turned up at the Mathura municipal corporation office dressed head-to-toe as a cockroach to agitate against the apathy of the civic body.
Here Are Key Differences beween the CJP and IAC:
Nature: IAC was a serious, offline movement, while CJP is light-hearted and satirical.
Medium: IAC was the street protests, while the CJP is limited to social media.
Focus: IAC primarily focuses on corruption, the CJP on youth unemployment, the education system, and Gen-Z's frustrations.
Objective: IAC formed a political party, while CJP has so far not revealed any serious plan.
