Cold weather is steadily intensifying in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula as Northern winds blowing over the past few days have pushed temperatures below normal, leading to shivering in the mornings and late at night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a three-day cold wave and advised people to remain vigilant.
On Monday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped to 8.9 degrees Celsius, about 1.6 degrees below normal. This sudden drop in minimum temperatures reduced the number of people on the streets in the morning.
IMD forecasts temperatures may drop by another two to three degrees in the coming days. The department has advised extra caution, especially for the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Due to cold winds, light fog was also observed in many areas early in the morning, slightly reducing visibility. Although the fog hasn't yet become severe, it is expected that it will increase with further drops in temperature.
Health experts have advised people to wear warm clothing when going out in the morning and evening, especially covering their heads, ears, and feet. Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet are also recommended to avoid illnesses that increase with cold weather, such as viral infections and joint pain.
