In a recent study by the Pew Research Centre, Hindus are the most highly educated religious group in the United States, followed by Jews. The findings come from the 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study (RLS) conducted by the Washington-based Pew Research Centre.
As per the study, around 70 per cent of Hindus in the US hold at least a bachelor’s degree, followed by Jews with 65 per cent. In comparison, only 35 per cent of all US adults have completed a bachelor’s degree.

It was found in the analysis that among Muslims, Buddhists, Orthodox Christians and mainline Protestant Christians, more than four in ten adults come under the above-average level of higher education.
However, the proportion of college graduates among Evangelical Protestants, Catholics and members of historically Black Protestant churches was found to be below the national average.
The Religious Landscape Study surveyed 36,908 US adults between July 17, 2023, and March 4, 2024. The report was released on February 19, 2026, and is considered one of the most comprehensive surveys on religion and public life in the country.
In terms of population share, Hindus, Muslims and Jews each account for a relatively small percentage of the US population. Jews make up about 2 per cent, Muslims around 1 per cent to 1.3 per cent, and Hindus roughly 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent. The majority of Americans identify as Christian or religiously unaffiliated.
The report noted that immigration and demographic trends help explain the education pattern. Many Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists migrated to the US through higher-education programs or skilled-worker visa pathways, contributing to their higher levels of academic attainment.
While these minority faith communities are growing, they remain much smaller compared to the roughly 70 per cent of Americans who identify as Christian.
