A gunman aimed with a gun at National Conference chief and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah at a wedding event in Jammu, but was overpowered by his security and other people around him, which averted a major incident.
J&K Deputy CM Surendra Choudhary was accompanying him when the firing incident took place. The attack took place while Abdullah was leaving the wedding event.
Both Abdullah and Choudhary escaped unhurt in the attack while the gunman was overpowered by security guards. The police have taken him into custody and started an investigation. The accused was being interrogated to find out the reason behind the attack and who was behind it. A video of the incident has surfaced.

The attacker has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. Providing details about the incident, the J&K Police said, "An incident of firing was reported at a function where JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary were present. One person has been arrested. More details awaited."
Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the J&K CM Omar Abdullah, said that no one was injured in the attack. "No, it's nothing like that. Allah has been very kind," he said.

When asked about police arrangements at the spot, Nasir added, "They (police) should check. It is too early to comment on anything..."
On being asked about whether someone was taken into custody, he said, "He (accused) has been taken into custody for now... This is just the start. When the investigation is complete, we will know what it was and what he was looking for... He (Farooq Abdullah) is absolutely fine... He is currently taking some rest..."
Speaking about the attack, J&K Deputy CM Choudhary said that he, Abdullah and Nasir were all together when the attack took place. "We are all together. I, our leader Farooq Abdullah, and Nasir were together... Everyone is safe." he said.

Raising questions over security arrangements, he called the attack a big lapse as no local police was at the site. "One should ask the police how such a big lapse has happened. It happened at Royal Park in Greater Kailash. There was no one from the local police there. This is a very big security lapse," the Deputy CM said.
