Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the Bharatiya Janata Party's dominating victory in the Falta assembly repoll in West Bengal, calling it a victory of democracy and the defeat of intimidation.

Taking to X, the prime minister congratulated the winning candidate, Debangshu Panda. "People of Falta have spoken! Democracy has won, and intimidation has lost. Congratulations to Shri Debangshu Panda Ji for winning in Falta by a record margin. It indicates the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal towards the BJP," PM Modi said in his X post.

PM Modi also said that the result showed the faith of people in West Bengal bestowed upon the new BJP government and complimented all BJP workers for their outstanding work.

Panda secured a total of 1,49,666 votes. He was followed by CPI(M)'s Sambhu Nath Kurmi, who polled 40,645 votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla finished third with 10,084 votes.

Falta made headlines before the assembly election polling on April 29 after Khan and IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma, a UP cadre officer deployed by the Election Commission as poll observer, engaged in a verbal spat.

The super cop, popularly known as 'Singham,' was seen warning against poll irregularities in Falta. Khan called himself 'Pushpa' while responding to Sharma's action, suggesting he won't bow down.

On polling day, irregularities were reported in Falta, and the poll body announced a repoll on May 21. Hours before the end of campaigning, Khan announced to pull out of the fray, a move widely seen by the opposition, including TMC, as pressure by the new BJP government.
