In a major development in attack on ex-Muslim YouTuber Saleem Wastik, UP Police on Sunday evening killed one of the two radicals in Loni police station area. Two police personnel were injured in the encounter.

The police have recovered a pistol, cartridges, the surgical blade used in the incident, and a bike from them. The accused had attempted to murder Wastik by slitting his throat.

Earlier on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that crime has no place in the state and that the strictest possible action would be taken in this case.

The police swung into action on Saturday, and using CCTV footage, they identified the two accused who carried out the fatal attack on Salim Wastik.

Regarding the encounter, the police said that one of the attackers, Zeeshan (27 years), a resident of Khoda, was killed in the encounter. He, along with his brother Gulfam, had attacked Salim Wastik, who had strongly criticised the alleged evils prevalent in Islam.

According to the police, both accused brothers are associated with a radical organisation. Zeeshan also runs his own YouTube channel. Gulfam is currently absconding.

Police have recovered a pistol, cartridges, the surgical blade used in the incident, and a bike from them. Both brothers originally hail from the Nangla Chowki police station area of Amroha.

Upon receiving information about the encounter, senior officials arrived at the scene. A thorough investigation is underway. Zeeshan was shot twice in the chest and abdomen.

Wastik was attacked when he returned to his office after offering prayer at the mosque. The bike-borne assailants, Zeeshan and Gulfam, tried to slit his throat. Wastik sustained serious injuries after which he was admitted to GTB Hospital.
