A man who led a double life as a software professional in Hyderabad while carrying out a series of house burglaries in Visakhapatnam has been arrested by the police. The accused, identified as Achchi Mahesh Reddy alias Sunny, a native of Kakinada, has been linked to 26 residential theft cases.

According to police officials, the accused began a systematic spree of burglaries after Sankranti, targeting residential localities including Gajuwaka, Arilova, Malkapur, Pendurthi and Duvvada. He reportedly conducted reconnaissance during the daytime and broke into houses at night by tampering with locks, taking special care to avoid leaving fingerprints.

The arrest followed a complaint registered on October 14, 2025, in the Gajuwaka area. A case was filed under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the IPC, and an investigation was launched. Based on technical analysis and CCTV footage, police tracked and arrested the accused on February 7 from the Arch Road area of Gajuwaka.

During the arrest, police recovered 699 grams of gold, 3.8 kilograms of silver, burglary tools, and a BMW car allegedly purchased using stolen money. The recovered property is valued at over Rs 15 lakh, while the total value of thefts across the 26 cases is estimated at around Rs 25 lakh.

Investigations also revealed that the two-wheelers used during the crimes were registered in the name of unsuspecting individuals who were unaware their vehicles were being used for criminal activities.

Police stated that the accused has a history of criminal involvement. He was previously lodged in a juvenile correctional home at the age of 15 and has earlier cases registered against him in Kakinada. A rowdy sheet will now be opened against him in Visakhapatnam.

The accused has been placed under preventive detention for one year, and further investigation is underway to examine his family’s criminal background.
