A 35-year-old man was burned alive by his former live-in partner in the Shahganj area of Agra. The situation had escalated after the deceased refused to delete old photographs of the pair together from his mobile phone. Police identified the victim as Chand, also known as Saddam, who had worked as an auto-rickshaw driver. He was attacked whilst returning home after dropping off passengers in the Dauretha area.

What Happened At The Site
The accused, identified as Shabnam, had allegedly dragged him out of the auto-rickshaw near Bilasganj. She then took Chand to an isolated spot, poured petrol over him, and set him on fire. People nearby heard his screams and rushed to the scene. Although they had managed to get him to SN Medical College, he was later moved to another hospital for advanced treatment, where he died on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the woman had been living with Chand for nearly two years following the death of her husband. However, a few days prior to the incident, she had married her brother-in-law, 33-year-old Alee Ahmed. Since then, the pair had been pressuring Chand to delete his photos of the accused.

Family Staged Protest
On Thursday, the victim’s family placed Chand’s body at Prithvinath Phatak and blocked traffic for nearly an hour. They demanded strict action against the accused and only ended the protest after the police had assured them that the perpetrators would be caught. The police have registered a case against Shabnam and her husband under Section 124 of the BNS and have sent a team to arrest them.
