The traffic on the main Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar road in West Delhi is likely to be obstructed for approximately one and a half months owing to major sewer repair work on the road beneath the Nawada Metro station, carried out by the Delhi Jal Board. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory about the work and asked commuters to take diversion routes in view of the development.
This road corridor forms an important part of the link connecting Najafgarh and nearby semi-urban areas to the central parts of Delhi. A large number of office-goers, students and commercial vehicles commute through this route every day, and traffic police apprehend congestion in such areas as Nawada, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka Mor and Najafgarh during the period of repair.
Traffic police sources say that the sewer line running under the Nawada Metro station had collapsed, and following this, the Delhi Jal Board took up repairing the sewer lines with trenchless technology. This work is going on between Metro pillars 722 and 723, and it will be completed in around 45 days.
Traffic advisory. 100 metres of the road, from Uttam Nagar to Dwarka Mor, has been made two-way, where the commuters travelling with light motor vehicles, cars, motorcycles and auto-rickshaws are permitted to pass through with limited speed.
No Entry for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles like buses, trucks, tempo and commercial vehicles have been barred from passing through the road with the suggested diversion route.
