Delhi Hotel Fire: Sole Surviving Member Of Gurugram Family Killed In Malviya Nagar Blaze Dies

The sole survivor of a Gurugram family which lost most of its members in the deadly fire at a hotel in Malviya Nagar area in South Delhi has also been extinguished, ending the entire family.

Radheshyam Agarwal, 77, who was receiving medical attention in a Delhi hospital for the past 10 days, died at around 11.30 am on Tuesday due to deteriorating health conditions. Agarwal, who was the father of CA Vivek Agarwal, lost all of his family members in the ghastly fire at the bed-and-breakfast (B&B) in Delhi’s Hauz Rani, where 21 were killed last week. 

“The body is expected to arrive at their residence in an hour. Afterwards, we will take him to the same cremation ground in Sector 32 where his son, two granddaughters, wife, and daughter-in-law were cremated on June 4,” HT quoted Naresh Gupta, Vivek Aggarwal’s uncle and neighbour in Gurugram’s Sector 46.

“At Vivek’s home, a few of the close family members presently live. They will leave soon by locking it indefinitely once all the last rite rituals for the entire family are completed,” Gupta said.

The Agarwal family members were originally from Sector 46 in Gurugram and had come to Delhi to treat Radheshyam Agarwal at Max Hospital. Vivek Agarwal, who used to be present at the hospital with his father every day, too, came to Delhi with most of his family members along.

Apart from him, his mother Premlata Agarwal, wife Tarjani Agarwal, daughters Jivisha and Variya and maternal uncle Ashok Goyal had also visited Radheshyam Agarwal.

They had reserved two rooms in a guest house opposite the hospital, so that they could stay overnight.

Fire Claims the Lives of 21 People

The morning after they checked in (June 4), at around 5:30 am, a fire broke out in the building of the guest house where they were staying. The Agarwal family, along with their other relatives, were trapped in the blazing inferno. 

The fire killed Vivek Agarwal, his mother, his wife, his two daughters and his other relatives. Radheshyam Agarwal was the only person of the Agarwal family to be saved. With Radheshyam Agarwal also passing away due to his injuries, the entire Agarwal family has perished in the incident.
