A Bengaluru-based software professional has developed a novel artificial intelligence tool aimed at solving a common wedding dilemma: deciding what and how much to eat at lavish buffet spreads.

Pankaj, a software engineer, created the AI-powered tool to scan wedding buffets and generate personalised meal plans, allowing guests to sample a wide variety of dishes without overeating. The idea was born out of frustration with the confusion many guests face when confronted with dozens of vegetarian, non-vegetarian and dessert options.

According to Pankaj, the tool functions as an AI agent that visually scans the entire buffet using computer vision to identify individual dishes. It then applies calculations based on stomach volume physics to suggest which items to eat, which to skip and appropriate portion sizes, with the aim of maximising variety while minimising discomfort.

The tool is currently in its early development stage and has so far been tested only once, at a friend’s wedding. Pankaj said the results were encouraging, though he acknowledged that further testing is required.

Sharing the experiment on social media, he jokingly remarked, “Honestly, this is what my computer science degree was for.”

The concept has drawn widespread attention online, with many users praising it as a creative and practical application of AI. One user described it as “the real use of AI,” while others responded with humour, suggesting that by the time the AI finishes analysing the buffet, the food might already be gone.
