In a significant development, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday resigned from his position just weeks ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. The resignation, announced without prior notice or a detailed explanation, has sparked strong reactions from the ruling government in the state.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed 'shock' and 'deep concern' over the sudden resignation of CV Ananda Bose. She launched a scathing attack on the central government, alleging that the resignation was due to pressure from the Union Home Ministry ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Questioning the circumstances surrounding Bose's resignation, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "The reasons behind his resignation are not known to me at this moment. However, given the prevailing circumstances, I would not be surprised if the Governor has been subjected to some pressure from the Union Home Minister to serve certain political interests on the eve of the forthcoming State Assembly elections".

The Chief Minister also criticised the alleged appointment of RN Ravi as the Governor, stating that the decision was made without prior consultation with her government and violated established constitutional traditions.

"He never consulted with me as per the established convention in this regard. Such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India and strike at the very foundation of our federal structure. The Centre must respect the principles of cooperative federalism and refrain from taking unilateral decisions that erode democratic conventions and the dignity of States," she added.
