Delhi's municipal administrative map is set for a change after the Centre has approved the renaming of 12 MCD zones to bring them in line with the capital's recently reorganised districts, sources said.
According to sources, the official communication dated June 2 said that the state government has been asked to notify the amendment in the Delhi Gazette.
Further, it was added that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued directions to the Delhi government's Chief Secretary for amending the Fourteenth Schedule of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957.
Fourteenth Schedule of the DMC Act dictates the administrative and geographical breakdown of the city. It defines the boundaries and wards for each municipal zone, facilitating governance and civic service administration.

Officials said the decision follows proposals submitted by the Urban Development Department of the Delhi government and approved by the Delhi Cabinet.
The proposals, referred to in communications earlier in February and April 2026, recommended renaming the municipal zones to ensure their alignment with the district reorganisation carried out in the national capital.
